(13 hours ago)Today, I went to say hello to my dad, and he gave me a custard bread. My dad’s friend offered me another one, and I kindly said “no, thank you” because I knew I couldn’t eat both. I kindly and politely refused three times, yet he kept on insisting that I take it, so I gratefully ended up taking both and just decided that I shall give the other bread to my sister later. While I was driving near the freeways on my way to pick up my sister, I got stopped by the red light exactly at the place where the homeless people always stand on the sidewalk asking for money and food. And surely, there was a homeless man with a sign reading: “Homeless. Hungry” right at that corner, right next to my car.
I sighed because I hate feeling guilty and helpless when I’m near these people… but then, it occurred to me that I had the bread! I immediately took the extra bread out of my bag, rolled down my window, and handed it to him. He looked at it curiously, and I told him that it’s bread, and he thanked me. And I smiled.
As I drove away, I realized how wonderful it felt to give. There was silence in my car, the kind of silence that fills your heart with warmth and understanding… something that’s completely out of your control, and it just happens… something like magic. Then, I realized that even the smallest things in life all happen for a reason.
And for a while everything felt so nice and so right. And I thought to myself that maybe this is a small perfect piece of what Love is all about.
